Marina Person

Director, television host and actress, Marina Person graduated in cinema from the University of São Paulo. For 18 years she worked as a VJ at MTV Brazil. “Person”, her first documentary feature film, had a world premiere in Locarno Film Festival. She codirected the short film “Today’s Special”, winner of the prize of Best Direction in Gramado Film Festival and RioCine, in Brazil.

Her first feature film, “California”, attended many International Film Festivals such as Rotterdam,Tribeca, Netia Off Camera(Krakow), Torino Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (won the Queer Prize) and Huelva. In Brazil the film won many prizes such as Best supporting actor for Caio Horowicz in Rio Film Festival, Youth Prize at the São Paulo International Film Festival, Best Acting for Clara Gallo and best screenplay in Mix Brasil, Best Actor for Caio Blat in Sesc Melhores Filmes.

In 2016 she also stars, along with João Miguel, the feature film “Ballad of Return” (release date November/2016).

Synopsis: It is 1984. Estela is going through the convoluted stage of adolescence. Sex, love, friendship and other things seems so complicated. Her uncle, Carlos is her hero, and the trip to California to visit him is her biggest dream. However, everything falls apart when he comes back to Brazil looking skinny, weak, and sick. Between crisis and discoveries, Estela has to face a reality that will change forever her way of seeing the world.
